Shocking! Armed Police Takes Over Lekki Toll Gate Ahead Of Saturday’s Youths Protests.

Heavy Police presence with guns and live ammunitions have been seen in Lekki Toll Gate, the scene of last October’s carnage where scores of youths were killed for staging a peaceful protest. Other areas around the iconic place have also been seized by the Police presence.

Less than 24 hours to the planned protest at the Lekki Toll Gate by Nigerian youths asking for the withdrawal of Special Anti Robbery Squad from the streets, passers-by have been panic-struck. as Nigerian Police Force Rapid Response Squad has seized the venue, launching operation force protesters back, in a show of force, bullying and coercion to intimidate the protesters and send back home to discourage the protest.

A similar protest staged last October ended in a bloodbath as soldiers from a nearby military base, in a show of power and strength engaged in direct shootings of the youths, resulting in the killing of scores.

Tens more of those youths, who sustained life threatening injury are still helpless and facing uncertain future having been crippled and disoriented by the power of military bullets. Hundreds of Police in riot gears were at the same venue on Friday staging a warm up and walking round the toll gate, preparing for a major face-up with the youth. They were seen taking positions in the area while also littering other parts of the state on Saturday evening.

This is also coming less than 24 hours after the Federal and State governments warned youth not to embark on the protest, as they raised concerns that it may be hijacked by hoodlums and lead to lawlessness.

Lagos State Police Command on Thursday had warned against the protest saying it would be counterproductive just as a committee of enquiry set up to investigate last October carnage and many other bodies investigating the carnage are still in function. The Committee last week ordered the reopening of the toll gate, which had since been shut due to the incident last October.
