Afenifere Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin Dies From Diabettes Related Illness.

Comrade Odumakin early on Saturday morning died from diabettes-related complications after he reportedly lost his appetite about two weeks ago taking ill. Before his death, Comrade Odumakin played a key role in the emancipation of the the life of Yoruba race, his root race he held to his heart until his demise. His condition got worse recently and he was moved to the hospital admitted athe self isolation department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital whre he gave up the ghost.

Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary for the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere and a major force in the on-going Yoruba Nation self-determination move, is dead. He was in his late fifties.

Amidst sobbing, Comrade Odumakin’s wife, Dr Joe Odumakin, confirming his death  said she was on her way to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja where her husband died chanting repeatedly in self-daze and in sobs: “ OH!, a part of me is gone, a part of me is gone…a part of me is gone”

Joe said his husband fought hard at the intensive care unit of Lagos State University Hospital. Joe urged all well-meaning people to keep praying for her so she would survive the shock: “ Pray for me to survive this. My love is gone. He was OK before. Even on March 10 he was still attending meetings. He was recovering yesterday but he died this morning. I am at the intensive care unit. A part of me is gone,” a panicky Joe sobbed.

A social-political analyst, public affairs commentator and politician, Comrade Odumakin had suffered from diabetes and had struggled to survive and always surviving, being on a long-spell of medication.

But his health deteriorated about two weeks ago that he had not been abled to answer phone calls. He assigned a close relation to take care of his official communication engagements.

Last month, Odumakin had attended a meeting with Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola and during the meeting, he was noticed to be critically ill. Osun state government offered him emergency medical care and he was immediately transferred back to Lagos so he could recover under a better care.

He had been assumed to be recovering speedily when on Saturday morning, it was discovered he could no longer hold on to life, giving up early on Saturday morning.

Emotions and sympathies had overwhelmed Odumakin’s lovers across the World as thousands had celebrated him as a major icon in the on-going Yoruba Nation struggle.

Odumakin was a key player in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) that fought the regime of General Sani Abacha after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.

He was also one of the spokespersons of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), the body representing ethnic nationalities in the South-West, South-South, South-East and the Middle Belt.
