“Restructuring?, Please Stuff It. We Are No Fools”, Yoruba Liberation Fronts Shun Northern Leaders’ Offer
Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams, responding to reactions from the floor of the meeting while speaking to aiinewsonline said he would put no blames on those showing their displeasure over restructuring, saying it was shifting the main focus of the meeting as Yoruba people who had endured terrible humiliation, destruction, dehumanization, betrayal, and retrogression need to move on and reorganize their lives.
Northern leaders calling the Yoruba Nation to come to the table for restructuring have been told to forget the offer, claiming it is now archaic and non-existing in the book of SouthWest future visions and dreams.
Yoruba Voice of Liberation in a one voice resolution last weekend voted unanimously, rejecting any offer of restructuring of Nigeria, claiming SouthWest for several years had begged for the nation to be restructured while the call had been treated with contempt and deceits which the region had taken with maturity and tolerance.
The post-summit communique reached on Saturday, April 10, 2021, which focussed deliberation on the Northern stakeholders’ suggestion dismissed the move outright claiming what Southwest Nigeria wants now is total and non-retractable self-determination.
“Our resolution now is the establishment of total independence of Nigeria constituent regions/ethnic nationalities”, as a lasting solution to Nigeria’s social, economic, and political problems.
It would be recalled that a post-summit communiqué jointly issued by the Northern Elders Forum, Arewa Consultative Forum and similar groups from the North offered restructuring, in which by reference, the presidency office, and essentially the control of other regions, remains the birthright of the North.
According to Mr Ayo Faleti, President, Yoruba Voice of Liberation who on behalf of the YVL, a World-spread body signed the communique, described restructuring as a poisonous offer and complete distraction from the landmark progress made in the establishment of a virile and progressive and great nation of the Yoruba race.
“The antidote to our our current circumstances is nothing short of independent Yoruba Nation, and similar nation for desiring ethnic nationalities justifiably fed up with the self-appointed colonial master of the North”, he added.
In an earlier resolution adopted two weeks ago during a World summoned conference over a statement made by the leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, opting for Nigeria to be restructured during a BBC Yoruba programme, Yoruba One Voice(YOV), another Yoruba social-political movement and stake-holder in the Yoruba Nation’s destiny, the body rejected any idea of restructuring, with attending members threatening the leadership of the organisation if issues of restructuring is mentioned anytime meetings are holding.
It was a gathering of history recount with members reminding the floor of the meeting how for many years the Southwest had begged for restructuring while the Northern-dominated government had treated the request with levity and contempt, ignoring the voice of Southwest and treating the people as second-class citizens.
The YOV meeting, attended by about 1000 members was presided over by Aare Ona Kakanfo, Chief Gani Ige Adams, who warned members never to make mention of the word restructuring in any future gathering because members were giving him hard time getting angry over the mention of restructuring.
“Actually, the mention of restructuring was is so irritating to members of YOV that many are threatening to avoid future meeting if it would be mentioned”, claimed Dr. Okanlomo, a secretary who spoke to aiinewsonline after the World YOV meeting.
Aare Adams added:” The afford-mentioned are the deliberate reward offered for Yoruba people’s sworn loyalty, patriotism, dedication, tolerance, endurance which had been generously offered to many Fulani government for many years. Their own vision is to bring down the Yoruba people and send the race back to ancient days dark moments of history, which the people are now refusing to allow to happen.
