CONIFA AFRICAN CUP: BIAFRA ZOOMS TO THE FINAL ON BACKDOOR ABRACADABRA
The Biafra Football Federation is fighting hard to salvage the integrity of the Federation after its team defeated Yoruba Royal Golden Stars 1-0 in the ongoing CONIFA African Cup Of Nations.
The Biafra team scored the only goal of the match in the 60th minute when a defensive blunder earned the Royal Stars its first defeat in the tournament. The Biafra team will now face the Matabella team in the final this afternoon at the same venue at the Panorama Football Club Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
However, the Biafra Football Federation team membership has been queried over an alleged rental of professional football players most of who were Yorubas, the same players from the tribe of the opponents they played with. At least five players were alleged to have been hurriedly rented for the match against the Yoruba Nation Football Federation.
As the tournament commenced on Saturday afternoon, there was anxiety in the Biafra camp as the Biafra Football Federation could only showcase ten players to the CONIFA governing body, creating the suspicion that BIAFRA could not assemble its team despite several months of preparation for the tournament. The Yoruba Royal Golden Stars commenced its preparation only four weeks ago and the actual team had faced certain challenges, making the Yoruba Nation Football Federation put up an emergency team for the tournament.
Reacting to the alleged fraud, Enwere Egeme. a member of the CONIFA LOC reacted when confronted in the committee group that as professional football players, the trick is allowed adding that the Yoruba boys are already Biafran citizens, having renounced their Yoruba citizenship.
The Biafra team credibility battle rages as Yoruba have threatened to launch a major investigation and report the fraud to the CONIFA Global body seeking an inquiry into the alleged fraud.
Royal Golden Stars Team Manager, Temi Smart, reacting described Biafra’s reaction as disgraceful, claiming instead of owning up to major fraud in the team member rental, Biafra is justifying its own fraud. According to Temi Smart, the idea is crude in the World of football and it sold out Biafra as being desperate to attain false and undeserved glory in the game of football.
However, the team manager implores the players and their counterparts who could not make the game due to logistics problems to hope for a better future and a more credible competition.
Biafra is meeting Matabella land in the final later this afternoon.
