Equity investors gain N44.16bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.11%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive Thursday by 0.11% as the NGX-ASI increased to 71,365.25 from 71,284.56 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +39.25%.

 Market capitalization increased by N44 billion to N39.052 trillion from N39.008 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N10.24 billion from N6.61 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 540,085,654 shares in 6,516 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,243,207,509.41, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, November 29), today’s data shows 50% improvement in volume and 55% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 39.1 trillion.

In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 33 losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 35.20 per share, followed by Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.62%), MeCure Industries (+9.09%) and Champion Breweries (+7.69%).

On the losing side, Secure Electronic Technology came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.72% at NGN 0.65 per share, followed by Unity Bank (-9.68%), Tantalizers (-9.43%) and Daar Communications (-9.38%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 67.2 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (56.7m), Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (46.1m) and Transcorp Nigeria (42.8m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 80.69 (0.11%) points to close at 71,365.25, representing a 1-week gain of 0.44%, a 4-week gain of 1.89%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 39.25%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.18%; +0.83% 1WK; +42.49% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.03%; +0.95% 1WK; +46.76% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.23%; -0.04% 1WK; +43.95% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.07%; -1.17% 1WK; +15.78% YTD), NGX Pension Index (-0.04%; +1.23% 1WK; +70.7% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.09%; +1.09% 1WK; +43.13% YTD).
