Investors gain N30.21bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.08%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday by 0.08% as the NGX-ASI increased to 71,419.87 from 71,365.25 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +39.95%.
Market capitalization increased by N30.21 billion to N39.082 trillion from N39.052 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N10.22 billion from N10.24 billion.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 361,116,909 shares in 5,640 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,225,305,027.57, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, November 30), today’s data shows 33% decline in volume and 13% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 39.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 38 gainers and 27 losers. Ikeja Hotel led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.62 per share, followed by Neimeth International Pharma (+10%), Unity Bank (+10%) and Omatek Ventures (+9.86%).
On the losing side, Sunu Assurances Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.26 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (-9.76%), McNichols (-9.64%) and Cadbury Nigeria (-7.49%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 44.1 million traded shares, followed by Jaiz Bank (35.4m), Access Holdings (23.9m) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (18.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 54.62 (0.08%) points to close at 71,419.87, representing a 1-week gain of 0.27%, a 4-week gain of 1.74%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 39.35%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.27%; +0.41% 1WK; +47.15% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; +0.44% 1WK; +42.47% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.14%; +1.92% 1WK; +81.21% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.18%; +0.74% 1WK; +43.39% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.09%; +0.95% 1WK; +70.85% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.05%; +5.97% 1WK; +126.42% YTD).
