Investors gain N1.45trn as NGXASI appreciates  by 2.87%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday by 2.87% as the NGX-ASI increased to 94,538.12 from 91,896.97 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +26.43%.

The market performance for the week increased by 13.84% to 94,538.12 from 83,042.96 recorded at the beginning of the week.

 Market capitalization increased today by N1.445 trillion to N51.735 trillion from N50.290 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, conversely the market turnover decreased to N15.045 billion from N19.293 billion.

At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 844,485,223 shares in 15,255 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 15,044,513,608.98, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, January 18), today’s data shows 26% decline in volume, 22% decline in turnover, and 14% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 51.7 trillion.

In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 35 losers. Seplat Petroleum Development Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2,541.00 per share, followed by BUA Cement (+10%), May & Baker Nigeria (+9.99%) and Dangote Cement (+9.98%).

On the losing side, Lasaco Assurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.85% at NGN 2.47 per share, followed by C&I Leasing (-9.82%), Mutual Benefits Assurance (-9.41%) and Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (-9.38%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 80.3 million traded shares, followed by Veritas Kapital Assurance (80.1m), Fidelity Bank (60.5m) and Jaiz Bank (36.3m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) soared 2,641.15 (2.87%) points to close at 94,538.12, representing a 1-week gain of 13.84%, a 4-week gain of 30.45%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 26.43%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+2.89%; +14.23% 1WK; +27.33% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+9.34%; +46.88% 1WK; +59.44% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.3%; +8.82% 1WK; +10.27% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+5.03%; +20.19% 1WK; +32.49% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.34%; +9.58% 1WK; +22.36% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.83%; +5.98% 1WK; +21.52% YTD).
