From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has appointed immediate past Chairman of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Anthony Nwizi, as the new Director-General of the state-run radio and television station, Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC).
Governor Nwifuru named Nwizi, his erstwhile Special Assistant on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) since last year, as the new EBBC DG on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
National President of NUJ, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, while thanking the Ebonyi State Chief Executive for considering a consummate journalist and an astute administrator for the elevation, congratulated Nwizi, describing his appointment as well deserved. Isiguzo wished Nwizi the best in his tour of duty.
Reacting to Nwizi’s appointment, the Ebonyi State Council of NUJ congratulated him, saying he merited it.
“The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State Council heartily congratulates the immediate past Chairman of the Council, Comrade Anthony Nwizi, on his meritorious appointment as the Director-General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru,” the Council stated in a statement endorsed by its Chairman, Comrade Chinedu Nwafor, noting that it was the first time a staff of the corporation was considered for the office of the Director-General EBBC.
According to the statement, “the appointment of Comrade Nwizi is well deserved, having risen through the ranks as a staff of the Corporation.” The Council also said that it “has no iota of doubt that Nwizi would bring his many years of experience in the Media industry to bear in the discharge of his new assignment.”
The Council stated that it was very much confident that Nwizi’s appointment would bring the desired positive change in the Corporation, given his background as a staff of the organisation.
While thanking the governor for what it described as a “bold decision” and for believing in the youths, the Ebonyi NUJ called on its members and the entire Staff of EBBC to give the new DG, the maximum cooperation that would enable him to succeed and make the corporation to favourably compete in the broadcast industry, both within and outside Nigeria.
