Equities Market gains N898.32bn as NGXASI advances by 1.57%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday by 1.57% as the NGX-ASI increased to 104,421.23 from 102,802.25 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +39.65%.
The market performance for the week increased by 1.97% to 104,421.23 from 102,401.88 recorded at the beginning of the week.
Market capitalization increased by N898.32 billion to N57.158 trillion from N56.260 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N23.475 billion from N12.155 billion.
At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 943,508,909 shares in 11,512 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 23,475,077,523.20, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, February 1), today’s data shows 10% improvement in volume, 93% improvement in turnover, but 10% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 57.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 61 gainers and 12 losers. Transcorp Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 15.40 per share, followed by Sterling Bank (+10%), Neimeth International Pharma (+10%) and PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.97%).
On the losing side, John Holt came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.43 per share, followed by Morison Industries (-9.76%), N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.15%) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (-8.22%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 339 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (80.6m), Transcorp Nigeria (55m) and United Bank for Africa (49.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,618.98 (1.57%) points to close at 104,421.23, representing a 1-week gain of 1.97%, a 4-week gain of 31.08%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 39.65%.
