Eagles zoom to AFCON semi-final as Nigeria defeats Angola

Super Eagles of Nigeria this Friday evening, February 2, 2024, became the first team to qualify for the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) holding in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian national team defeated Palancas Negras of Angola in first quarter-final match of the tournament held at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.

Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the game in which another by Victor Osimhen was ruled offside.

The goal was scored in the 41st minute of the first half.

With the victory over Angola, Nigeria will next Wednesday battle either Cape Verde or South Africa for a place in the final.

Friday victory was sweet vengeance by the Eagles over the Palancas Negras who in June 2005 prevented Nigeria from qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
