Investors lose N849.10bn as NGXASI declines by 1.50%
Nigeria’sEquities Market closed negative on Tuesday by 1.50% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 102,108.05 from 103,659.81 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +34.37%.
Market capitalization decreased by N849.10 Billion to N55.872 trillion from N56.721 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N7.596 billion from N19.328 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 494,194,208 shares in 11,761 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,596,338,245.48, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, February 5), today’s data shows 41% decline in volume, 61% decline in turnover, and 14% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 46 losers. Cadbury Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 24.20 per share, followed by Juli (+10%), Meyer (+9.94%) and Daar Communications (+9.09%). On the losing side, BUA Cement came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 166.50 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (-10%), Sterling Bank (-9.85%) and The Initiates (-9.79%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 90.8 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (40.4m), Japaul Gold and Ventures (33.6m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (32.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 1,551.76 (-1.5%) points to close at 102,108.05, representing a 1-week loss of 0.97%, a 4-week gain of 22.74%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 36.56%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-1.5%; -1.02% 1WK; +37.64% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -1.78% 1WK; +20% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.22%; +3.99% 1WK; +31.69% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.44%; -1.64% 1WK; +51.13% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-1%; +5.19% 1WK; +31.98% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-1.19%; -0.92% 1WK; +17.76% YTD).
