Equity investors lose N954.04m as NGXASI closes flat

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed flat  on Wednesday  as the NGX-ASI remained at 102,106.31 from 102,108.05 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +34.37%.

Market capitalization decreased by N0.95billion to N55,87 trillion from N55,87 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While the market turnover decreased to N6.244 billion from N7.596 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 341,923,578 shares in 9,665 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,405,437,490.28, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, February 6), today’s data shows 31% decline in volume, 16% decline in turnover, and 18% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.9 trillion.

In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 35 losers. Meyer led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.72 per share, followed by Tripple Gee & Co. (+9.84%), Juli (+9.09%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (+8.78%). On the losing side, Aiico Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.92% at NGN 1.18 per share, followed by Cadbury Nigeria (-9.5%), Guinea Insurance (-8.93%) and Tantalizers (-8.7%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 39.9 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (33.6m), Guaranty Trust Holding (26m) and United Bank for Africa (23.9m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 1.74 points to close at 102,106.31, representing a 1-week gain of 0.94%, a 4-week gain of 24.48%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 36.55%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0%; +0.89% 1WK; +37.64% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.32%; +7.33% 1WK; +33.44% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.28%; +0.99% 1WK; +27.02% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.03% 1WK; +20% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.1%; -3.4% 1WK; +100.79% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.34%; +0.88% 1WK; +50.62% YTD).
