WASA : Borno State govt assures military of more supports and collaboration
The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has assured the Nigerian Military of more support and collaboration in the fight against insurgents in Borno State, North East region of the country.
The Governor gave this assurance through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Hon Bukar Tijani who represented him at the annual West African Social Activities (WASA) jointly organized on Saturday, 17 February 2024 by Headquarters Theatre Command (TC) Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) and 7 Division Nigerian Army at 212 parade ground Maimalari Military Cantonment.
He said, ” We appreciate all officers and troops of Theatre command and 7 Division in the frontline for their immense sacrifices and commitments that have brought peace and tranquility to the state”. He therefore expressed his assurances to continue rendering all support to enable the military and other security agencies to achieve their mandate in all operations.
In his opening remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shaibu said “WASA is an annual regimental event that brings officers, troops, their families, and host communities together to wine and dines over the successes recorded within the year while looking forward to the new year”. General Shaibu said the President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been supportive in all operations and therefore pledged that the military is poised to decimate all remnants of the Boko Haram Terrorists within the region.
The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander of Sector 1 JTF NE OPHK, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna appreciates the almighty God for his mercies upon the lives of officers and men of the Division. He also registered his profound gratitude to the C-in-C, the Chief of Army Staff, and his immediate boss, the Theatre Commander for their strategic guidance to the Division. General Abubakar further appreciates the Governor of Borno state, Professor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, and the good people of the state for their unwavering support and collaboration with the military in the fight against insurgency.
The highlights of the events were dances and Cultural displays by different troupes within the cantonment, short drama, comedy, and a tour of various units stood by the Special Guest of Honour. Others include tug of war between soldiers’ wives and female soldiers, presentation of souvenirs, beating of the retreat, and lighting up of the bonfire to signify the end of both operational and training activities of the year.
