Following enquiries for information on Nigeria’s solid minerals by the Emir of the State if Qatar, Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani during a top level meeting with the  Nigerian delegation led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday,  Solid Minerals Development Minister Dr Oladele  has highlighted what makes Nigerian lithium stand out.

Lithium is an Alkali metal found in pegmatites and brines and is processed for batteries and other energy products.

Directed by President Tinubu to address the forum, Dr.Alake explained that Nigeria’s lithium  conveniently occurs close to the surface, facilitating extraction processes and making it more accessible for investors.
He said this makes  Nigeria a favorable destination for lithium exploration and extraction.
Secondly, Dr. Alake highlighted the exceptional quality of Nigeria’s lithium, stating that it boasts one of the highest percentages of lithium content globally.

According to him, this factor enhances the economic viability of lithium mining in Nigeria and positions the country as a significant player in the international lithium market.

Additionally, Dr. Alake underscored the multiple  appeal of Nigeria’s lithium due to its  association with other valuable minerals such as nickel in composites.

The Honorable Minister said that these associated minerals further enrich the investment landscape, making Nigeria’s lithium an attractive proposition for potential investors.
At a larger Nigerian- Qattari Business Forum later same day at the Grand Sheraton Doha,  Dr Alake shared the vision of  collaboration between the two nations, particularly in the  field of solid minerals. The Honourable Minister’s comprehensive response highlighted Nigeria’s strategic advantages, providing a compelling case for investment in the country’s lithium sector.

He said the Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, welcomes the keen interest shown by Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and looks forward to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships in the exploration and development of Nigeria’s abundant solid minerals.
