Edo 2024: Monday Okpebholo emerges APC governorship primary
The All Progressives Congress (APC) finally concluded its governorship primary election on Friday declaring the Senator representing Edo Central, Monday Okpebholo as the candidate of the party.
The final outcome of the exercise was announced officially in Benin City by the Chairman of the Election Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, following the collation of results from the 18 Local Government Areas.
The announcement took place at the Lushville Hotel and Suites Benin City.
Senator Okpebholo polled a total of 12,433 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Dennis Idahosa, who is the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who garnered 6,541 votes.
This victory marks a pivotal moment for Okpebholo, positioning him as the APC’s gubernatorial candidate for the September 21 electoral contest in Edo State.
This primary election comes in the wake of a controversial and inconclusive primary held last week, overseen by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Recall that senator Monday Okpebholo was one of the three winners that emerged from last Saturday’s cancelled shadow poll.
The APC National Working Committee intervened, declaring the initial primary inconclusive after disputes arose over the premature declaration of Idahosa as the winner.
