Egbetokun confirmed as IGP
Appointment of acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has been confirmed by the Police Council after a meeting of the body in Abuja,Tuesday.

Following the confirmation, Mr Egbetokun is now expected to function in full capacity as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the country.
Mr Egbetokun who has been in acting capacity since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, June 19, 2023, was confirmed the IGP, by the council which met on the sidelines of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, same venue.
Bauch State Governor, Bala Mohammed who disclosed this after a meeting of police council which held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tuesday, also revealed that President Tinubu, who chaired the meeting, has intervened in the political and security situation unfolding in Rivers State over a planned impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The new IGP replaced Usman Baba, who was appointed as the IGP by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.
Born on September 4, 1964, in the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Egbetokun enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990. He would clock 35 years in service by September 2024, according to police rules.
