Equities Market closes positive  as NGX-ASI marginally increases by 0.08%

 Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on  Friday  by 0.08% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,136.58 from 67,084.95 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.00%. The market performance for the week increased by 0.33% to 67,136.58 from 66,915.41 recorded at the beginning of the week.

Market capitalization increased by N28.36 billion to N36.885 trillion from N36.856 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N5.178 billion from N5.110 billion.

At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 214,146,034 shares in 5,325 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,178,488,454.26, were traded.

Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, October 26), today’s data shows 20% decline in volume, 1% improvement in turnover, and 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.

In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 23 losers. Berger Paints led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 13.20 per share, followed by Red Star Express (+10%), Japaul Gold and Ventures (+10%) and Omatek Ventures (+10%).

On the losing side, Academy Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.9% at NGN 1.73 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (-9.09%), Daar Communications (-8.7%) and McNichols (-8.2%).

 Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 24.3 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (16.7m), Japaul Gold and Ventures (16.2m) and United Bank for Africa (15.5m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 51.63 (0.08%) points to close at 67,136.58, representing a 1-week gain of 0.33%, a 4-week gain of 1.04%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.02%; -0.04% 1WK; +39.63% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.03%; +0.33% 1WK; +34.02% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.31%; +2.07% 1WK; +102.35% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.13%; -1.12% 1WK; +55.43% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.59%; +1.04% 1WK; +67.98% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.14%; +0.57% 1WK; +33.54% YTD).
