Equities Market continues on bullish sentiment as ASI gains 1.45%.
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 1.45% as the NGX-ASI increased to 103,524.44 from 102,044.84 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +38.45%.
Market capitalization increased by N836.59 billion to N58.533 trillion from N57.697 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While, the market turnover decreased to N14.23 billion from N17.09 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 565,787,524 shares in 11,519 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 14,233,931,300.01, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 11), today’s data shows 30% improvement in volume, 17% decline in turnover, but 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 58.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 35 gainers and 14 losers. United Bank for Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 25.30 per share, followed by MTN Nigeria (+9.98%), Julius Berger Nigeria (+9.71%) and Access Holdings (+9.51%).
On the losing side, Tantalizers came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.89% at NGN 0.35 per share, followed by National Salt Company (-6.77%), Morison Industries (-6.62%) and C&I Leasing (-6.45%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 171 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (48.6m), Guaranty Trust Holding (39m) and Jaiz Bank (36.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,479.60 (1.45%) points to close at 103,524.44, representing a 1-week gain of 4.37%, a 4-week gain of 1.79%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 38.45%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.35%; +3.29% 1WK; +38.13% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+5.36%; +5.25% 1WK; +2.92% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+3.29%; +7.53% 1WK; +41.06% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+3.11%; +5.21% 1WK; +16.8% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.18%; +0.76% 1WK; +12.46% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.26%; +2.36% 1WK; +36.87% YTD).
