Equities Market  continues on bullish trend  as NGX-ASI advances by 1.94%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive  on Wednesday  by 1.94% as the NGX-ASI increased to 70,581.76 from 69,236.19 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +37.72%.

Market capitalization increased today by N739.26 billion to N38,777 trillion from N38,038 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N11.02 billion from N6.04 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 601,732,986 shares in 7,444 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,016,055,630.59, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, October 31), today’s data shows 25% improvement in volume, 82% improvement in turnover, but 7% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 38.8 trillion.

In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 37 gainers and 16 losers. Airtel Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,694.10 per share, followed by Chams (+9.91%), University Press (+9.91%) and N.E.M. Insurance Company (+9.9%).

On the losing side, Caverton Offshore Support Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.74% at NGN 1.43 per share, followed by Champion Breweries (-6.85%), C&I Leasing (-6.41%) and UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (-2.7%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 164 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (94.7m), Guaranty Trust Holding (45.8m) and Access Holdings (36.7m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,345.57 (1.94%) points to close at 70,581.76, representing a 1-week gain of 5.02%, a 4-week gain of 6.17%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 37.72%.

 Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.94%; +5.01% 1WK; +40.91% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+1.12%; +3.69% 1WK; +45.2% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+3.73%; +5.81% 1WK; +65.65% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+2.68%; +6.08% 1WK; +41.75% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.21%; +4.68% 1WK; +75.39% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+1.65%; +4.7% 1WK; +68.33% YTD).
