Equities Market dips as NGX-ASI depreciates by 3.15%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative Monday by 3.15% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 105,722.78 from 105,722.78 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +36.94%.
Market capitalization decreased by N1,821.93 trillion to N56.028 trillion from N57.850 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while, the market turnover decreased to N7.439 billion from N8.050billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading ,a total of 273,851,015 shares in 9,688 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,439,487,843.51, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 16), today’s data shows 20% decline in volume, 8% decline in turnover, but 15% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 37 losers. Juli led the gainers with 9.52% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.61 per share, followed by Daar Communications (+8.64%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+6.74%) and Associated Bus Company (+6.67%). On the losing side, Dangote Cement came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 686.70 per share, followed by MTN Nigeria (-10%), Nigerian Exchange Group (-9.76%) and N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.74%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 28.8 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (20.1m), Access Holdings (15.9m) and FBN Holdings (15.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) plummeted 3,329.55 (-3.15%) points to close at 102,393.23, representing a 1-week gain of 0.34%, a 4-week gain of 6.92%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 36.94%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-3.15%; +0.49% 1WK; +38.3% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.15%; +6.13% 1WK; +35.09% YTD), NGX Banking Index (-0.26%; -0.73% 1WK; -0.34% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.28%; +4.8% 1WK; +25.44% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.77%; +9.45% 1WK; +45.15% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-2.01%; -0.64% 1WK; +14.65% YTD).
