Equities Market gains N617.80bn as NGX-ASI advances by 1.65%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 1.65% as the NGX-ASI increased to 69,236.19 from 68,111.71 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +35.09%.
Market capitalization increased by N617.80 billion to N38,038 trillion from N37.420 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N6.04 billion from N8.257 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 483,269,977 shares in 8,027 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,044,484,060.82, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, October 30), today’s data shows 12% improvement in volume, 27% decline in turnover, but 5% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 38 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 40 gainers and 25 losers.
Airtel Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,540.10 per share, followed by Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (+9.92%), Cadbury Nigeria (+9.92%) and Chams (+9.9%).
On the losing side, Beta Glass Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.93% at NGN 60.30 per share, followed by University Press (-9.79%), Ellah Lakes (-9.56%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (-8.82%).
Japaul Gold and Ventures recorded the highest volume of 156 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (33.9m), Zenith Bank (29.9m) and Access Holdings (27.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,124.48 (1.65%) points to close at 69,236.19, representing a 1-week gain of 3%, a 4-week gain of 3.69%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 35.09%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.7%; +3.01% 1WK; +38.24% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.35%; +2.3% 1WK; +43.6% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+2.63%; +3.47% 1WK; +38.06% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.87%; +1.37% 1WK; +59.69% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.4%; +2.64% 1WK; +65.59% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.94%; +1.3% 1WK; +71.6% YTD).
