Equities Market investors gain N97.69bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.25%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday by 0.25% as the NGX-ASI increased to 71,230.48 from 71,052.85 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +38.98%.
The market performance for the week increased by 0.16% to 71,230.48 from 71,112.99 recorded at the beginning of the week.
Similarly, the market capitalization increased by N98.00 billion to N39.173 trillion from N39.075 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.27 billion from N3.44 billion.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 582,766,478 shares in 6,874 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,270,618,814.19, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, November 23), today’s data shows 3% improvement in volume, 24% improvement in turnover, and 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 39.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 33 gainers and 22 losers. Secure Electronic Technology led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by MeCure Industries (+9.9%), Neimeth International Pharma (+9.85%) and Multiverse Mining & Exploration (+9.83%).
On the losing side, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 44.39% at NGN 2.08 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (-9.68%), C&I Leasing (-8.98%) and Chams (-7.73%). Veritas Kapital Assurance recorded the highest volume of 107 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (69.1m), Unity Bank (44.9m) and United Bank for Africa (32.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 177.63 (0.25%) points to close at 71,230.48, representing a 1-week gain of 0.17%, a 4-week gain of 6.1%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 38.98%.
