Equity investors gain N165.99bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.43%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.43% as the NGX-ASI increased to 71,250.17 from 70,946.83 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +39.02%.
Market capitalization increased by N165.99 billion to N38.99 trillion from N38.82 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, the market turnover also increased to N11.01 billion from N7.10 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 433,568,032 shares in 7,016 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,114,086,191.75, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, December 4), today’s data shows 21% improvement in volume, 57% improvement in turnover, and 9% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 39 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 40 gainers and 16 losers. Secure Electronic Technology led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.77 per share, followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration (+9.95%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+9.92%) and FBN Holdings (+9.86%).
On the losing side, Abbey Mortgage Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.88% at NGN 1.55 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-9.09%), Daar Communications (-8.82%) and Wapic Insurance (-7.14%).
UAC of Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 61.7 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (58.3m), Guaranty Trust Holding (23m) and Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (20.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 303.34 (0.43%) points to close at 71,250.17, representing a 1-week gain of 0.29%, a 4-week gain of 0.9%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 39.02%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.98%; +1.85% 1WK; +49.37% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.43%; +0.38% 1WK; +42.22% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+1.94%; -2.34% 1WK; +12.98% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.45%; +1.63% 1WK; +83.87% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.88%; +2.11% 1WK; +45.36% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.72%; +0.97% 1WK; +71.14% YTD).
