Five-Year-Old Girl Snatched By Leopard In India Village Suburb

The girl, identified as Priya Maurya, was with her grandmother, Saumitra barely a few meters from her house in Majra Golhana of village Semari Malmala located near Vantangia forest under Murtiha forest range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, when the leopard attacked.

A five-year-old girl resting on her grandmother’s lap was snatched away by a leopard in Bahraich, a city and a municipal board in Bahraich district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The city situates on the Saryu River, a tributary of the Ghaghara River, in Pradesh, India

Times Of India reported that a joint team of police and forest department was searching for the girl in nearby areas but she was yet to be traced till midnight ..

The villagers accused the local forest personnel of slow response to their alert and took revenge by attacking the rangers, attacking and vandalizing their vehicles. Six members of the forest personal were seriously injured.

One of them is critically injured and undergoing treatment in the hospital. The Police department however fearing for their lives alarmed, a team of Police personnel who rushed to the spot to put the situation under control and saving the lives of the forest experts.

District Forest Officer, Katarniaghat, Yashwant told Times Of India that the vehicles were damaged while the rangers were attacked by the villagers with sticks and iron rods. “As soon as we got the information about the child being dragged away by a feline, UP 112, the Uttar Pradesh  integrated Police emergency department  was immediately pressed into action”,  to arrest the situation,”
