Insecurity : Rivers Govt asks security agencies to stop planned United Igbo Community General Meeting in Port Harcourt
Rivers State Government has cancelled the planned general meeting of the United Igbo Community scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area because of security reasons.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim stated this on Thursday in a statement.
Nsirim stated that “Security Agencies have therefore been directed to ensure that the said meeting does not hold to forestall a break down of law and order in the area.”
It will be recalled that Rivers State is one of the hotspots for the activities of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, the proscribed separatist Igbo group, and Governor Nyesom Wike has already signed an Executive Order declaring IPOB a terrorist organization.
River State is in the South south geo- political zone while IPOB is seeking a separate country for the South east zone. Speaking of the group during a broadcast, Wike said This is clearly a terrorist group which existence, creed, mission and activities are strongly denounced even by the government and peoples of South-Eastern States of the country.”
