Investors gain N1.85trn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.10%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 0.10% as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,847.89 from 98,751.98 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.20%.
Market capitalization increased by N1,854.23 trillion to N55.889 billion from N54.035 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N19.924 billion from N6.783 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 429,639,960 shares in 10,749 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 19,924,058,691.02, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, March 1), today’s data shows 17% improvement in volume, 194% improvement in turnover, and 17% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 25 gainers and 25 losers. Transcorp Nigeria led the gainers with 9.94% share price appreciation closing at NGN 15.70 per share, followed by PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.93%), Neimeth International Pharma (+9.88%) and Juli (+9.87%).
On the losing side, Dangote Sugar Refinery came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 53.10 per share, followed by Vitafoam Nigeria (-10%), Unity Bank (-10%) and National Salt Company (-8.55%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 203 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Power (40m), United Bank for Africa (19.6m) and Aiico Insurance (12.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 95.91 (0.10%) points to close at 98,847.89, representing a 1-week loss of 3.09%, a 4-week loss of 4.64%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 32.2%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.1%; -3.19% 1WK; +33.41% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+1.58%; -2.35% 1WK; +76.71% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.17%; -0.54% 1WK; +33.16% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -1.18% 1WK; +23.85% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.19%; -3.75% 1WK; +15.34% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (-0.46%; -2.47% 1WK; -3.31% YTD).
