Investors gain N420.47bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.75%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Thursday by 0.75% as the NGX-ASI increased to 100,335.30 from 99,591.64 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +34.19%.

 Market capitalization increased by N420.47 billion to N56.731 billion from 56.310 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While, the market turnover decreased to N17.731 billion from N19.508 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 554,716,666 shares in 9,708 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 17,731,277,056.76, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 6), today’s data shows 33% improvement in volume, 9% decline in turnover, but 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.7 trillion.

In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 33 losers. MTN Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 201.30 per share, followed by Dangote Sugar Refinery (+10%), Transcorp Power (+9.99%) and Juli (+9.96%).

On the losing side, Guinness Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 45.90 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-10%), Transcorp Nigeria (-9.95%) and Ikeja Hotel (-9.93%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 301 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (33.3m), FBN Holdings (23.2m) and United Bank for Africa (18.4m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 743.66 (0.75%) points to close at 100,335.30, representing a 1-week gain of 0.36%, a 4-week loss of 0.88%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 34.19%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.14%; -0.7% 1WK; +34.23% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.33%; -1.27% 1WK; +33.25% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.62%; -1.87% 1WK; +42.07% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.38%; +1.44% 1WK; +34.89% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; -1.9% 1WK; +76.73% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.85% 1WK; +23.85% YTD).
