Investors gain N562.90bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.99%

 Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Friday  by 0.99% as the NGX-ASI increased to 101,330.85 from 100,335.30 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +35.52%.

The market performance for the week increased by 2.61% to 101,330.85 from 98,751.98 recorded at the beginning of the week.

 Market capitalization increased today by N562.90 billion to N57.293 billion from N56.731 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While, the market turnover increased to N19.878 billion from N17.731 billion.

At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 358,122,419 shares in 10,785 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 19,871,371,320.20, were traded.

Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, March 7), today’s data shows 35% decline in volume, 12% improvement in turnover, and 11% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 57.3 trillion.

In the aggregate, 128 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 22 losers. MTN Nigeria led the gainers with 9.99% share price appreciation closing at NGN 221.40 per share, followed by Dangote Sugar Refinery (+9.98%), National Salt Company (+9.97%) and Ikeja Hotel (+9.87%).

On the losing side, FTN Cocoa Processors came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.8% at NGN 1.38 per share, followed by C&I Leasing (-8.66%), Guinness Nigeria (-8.39%) and Guinea Insurance (-7.89%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 92.9 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Power (30.5m), United Bank for Africa (26.2m) and Access Holdings (23.3m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 995.55 (0.99%) points to close at 101,330.85, representing a 1-week gain of 2.61%, a 4-week loss of 0.52%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 35.52%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.99%; +1.51% 1WK; +35.56% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.94%; +2.21% 1WK; +35.84% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.05%; -1.21% 1WK; +43.56% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.96%; +1.05% 1WK; +11.84% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.39%; +2.88% 1WK; +35.41% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.28%; -1.4% 1WK; -4.23% YTD).
