Investors record N111.74bn loss as NGX-ASI depreciates by 0.30%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed Negative on  Thursday by 0.30% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 68,082.11 from 68,286.28 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.84%.

Market capitalization decreased by N111.75 billion to N37.261 trillion from N37.373 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N8.38 billion from N5.48 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 378,089,058 shares in 8,106 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,376,371,286.84, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, September 6), today’s data shows 53% improvement in turnover and 6% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.3 trillion.

In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 30 losers. Beta Glass Company led the gainers with 9.97% share price appreciation closing at NGN 51.85 per share, followed by Cadbury Nigeria (+9.86%), Computer Warehouse Group (+9.81%) and Tantalizers (+9.52%).

On the losing side, Morison Industries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.89% at NGN 2.55 per share, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (-7.69%), National Salt Company (-6.83%) and RT Briscoe (-6.82%). Oando recorded the highest volume of 91.6 million traded shares, followed by Omatek Ventures (30m), Dangote Sugar Refinery (23.4m) and Fidelity Bank (22.2m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 204.17 (-0.30%) points to close at 68,082.11, representing a 1-week gain of 2.3%, a 4-week gain of 4.41%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.84%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.28%; +2.45% 1WK; +36.11% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.65%; +4.83% 1WK; +51.2% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.1%; +10.35% 1WK; +70.82% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.03%; -0.89% 1WK; +52.78% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.12%; -0.06% 1WK; +103.11% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.16%; +3.26% 1WK; +61.58% YTD).
