Investors record N190.45bn loss as NGXASI declines by 0.32%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Wednesday by 0.32% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 104,181.32 from 104,518.14 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +39.33%.
Market capitalization decreased by N190.45 billion to N58.905 trillion from N59.096 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N8.908 billion from N14.300 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 405,026,417 shares in 10,364 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,908,206,622.71, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, April 2), today’s data shows 26% decline in volume, 39% decline in turnover, and 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 58.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 32 losers. University Press led the gainers with 9.84% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.68 per share, followed by SCOA Nigeria (+9.69%), Morison Industries (+9.66%) and Cutix (+9.62%). On the losing side, Caverton Offshore Support Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.62 per share, followed by International Energy Insurance (-10%), Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (-9.63%) and N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.6%).
Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 50 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (49m), Transcorp Nigeria (45.9m) and Zenith Bank (41.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 336.82 (-0.32%) points to close at 104,181.32, representing a 1-week gain of 0.04%, a 4-week gain of 5.4%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 39.33%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.35%; -0.02% 1WK; +38.49% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.16%; +43.86% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +0.06% 1WK; +78.29% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +24.09% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.16%; +0.16% 1WK; +38.05% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.57%; +41.66% YTD).
