Lagos State University (LASU) has announced its partnership with the United Nations (UN) in organizing a national conference on Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The conference to be hosted by Lagos State University Centre for the Actualisation of the UN SDGs (LASU-SDG), aims to discuss and find solutions to the pressing challenges facing Nigeria and Africa in achieving the SDGs. As part of the conference, a call for papers has been issued, inviting researchers and academics to contribute to the dialogue.

The conference, scheduled to take place on August 28th and 29th, 2023, will focus on four key areas aligned with the SDGs: people, prosperity, the planet, and peace. Sessions will cover various topics related to poverty, education, health, sustainable cities, climate change, peace promotion, and more. Participants are invited to submit abstracts of their research papers, which will be considered for oral presentations, panel sessions, or poster presentations.

An outcome document will be prepared from the conference papers, serving as a journal for wider sharing with stakeholders. Additionally, a summary paper will be produced, highlighting key areas proposed for focus over the next seven years to facilitate Nigeria and Africa’s achievement of the SDGs. This contribution will be presented at the SDG Summit during the UN General Assembly in September 2023.

The official language of the conference is English, but papers in Portuguese or French may be considered. The submission deadline for abstracts is August 11th, 2023, and contributors are requested to send their submissions to unlasusdgconference@gmail.com. The conference fees for presenters and postgraduate students are set at N20,000 and N10,000, respectively, payable to the LASU E-Pays Account at First Bank.
