Mayor, London Borough Of Brent Presents Recognition Award To Anambra Governor’s Wife For Her Roles In Fighting Sickle Cell Anaemia
Nigerian born Mayor of London Borough Of Brent, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi has presented a recognition award to the wife of Governor of Anambra State, Dr (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano for her work and contributions in creating awareness and support for people living with sickle cell anaemia and other disabilities, through her charity organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE.
Presenting the award to Mrs Obiano at the governor’s residence in Aguleri, flanked by her husband, Chief Willie Obiano, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Ado Ekiti, Most Reverend Felix Femi Ajakaye and the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Mr Ezeajughi said the governor’s wife has used the instrumentality of her NGO to bring medical and emotional solace to those living with the sickness.
The Mayor whose tenure in office is officially coming to an end on April 25, 2021, also urged the governor’s wife to sustain her humanitarian projects.
Responding, Dr (Mrs) Obiano who shared her experience being around a sickle cell patient, having lost someone close to the ailment few years ago, said that she was emboldened to create more awareness about the dangers of the illness by advising intending couples to go for mandatory genotype test before marriage.
She thanked the Mayor for partnering with her NGO since 2019, observing that the relationship has achieved huge results.
She also thanked her husband, Governor Obiano for his immense support, adding that it has remained a significant boost to her charitable activities in Anambra State.
