Nigerian Navy set to establish school in Ebonyi
All is now set for the establishment of Naval Secondary School at Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The Director of Naval Transformation, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen disclosed this when he visited Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at the Government House, Abakaliki.
He told the Governor that the visit was to seek collaboration in the establishment of a Naval presence in the state.
“We are here to commend you for your good works. We are here to inform you that we want to establish a Naval Secondary School in Ebonyi state. In terms of education, the Navy stands out. We take education seriously.”
Rear Admiral Oamen said:
“We have seen your giant strides in Education. The Chief of Naval Staff asked us to come and work out the modalities for the establishment of Naval secondary School in Ebonyi State.
“Permit me to place on records the wonderful works you are doing in Ebonyi State which of course is the reflection of the state in terms of openness and hospitality”.
Responding , Governor Nwifuru stated that the request is timely, given his matchless commitments towards taking a quantum leap in education and human capital development.
In order to guard against the erosion of ethics inculcated in the Secondary School Students, he urged the Nigerian Navy to consider establishing a Naval University whereby graduates from Naval High Schools, will be offered admission for higher degrees.
The Governor urged the Navy to hasten the commencement of academic activities in the school soonest, assuring them of the support and cooperation of the host community and Ebonyi State Government.
