“Obedients Are Zombies”-Femi Kuti Skeptical Over Obi’s Visits To IBB And OBJ
” I woke up today to insults abusing me, my family and my children, threatening that they will burn the shrine”.- Femi Kuti speaks out
Afrobeats musician Femi Kuti has debunked the news that he called the supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, also known as “Obidients,” as zombies , he said he did not refer to Mr Peter Obi at any point in time but only condemned the terminology “ Obedient “ in a society like Nígeria where injustice reigns .
“ You know what obedience means? Stand up, sit down, sit there — zombie,” – Mr Kuti said during a performance at the Shrine on Thursday night in Lagos, wondering why Mr Obi’s popularity has grown rapidly in recent months with a slogan not very good in a society of political liars
“How can you be Obidient in this chaos? I am not Obidient. Tell me, at 60, why am I Obidient? You said I should be Obidient, sit down, be peaceful,” -he said while condemning the terminology Obedient adopted by the supporters of Peter Obi
“Are you all okay in this country?” Mr Kuti exclaimed . “ Did I call Peter Obi supporters zombies? Did I say that? No. What does ‘obedient’ mean? I wouldn’t say I like that terminology for myself and will never use it “ – Femi said
“Nothing can make me obedient. I’m too angry, too sad, too depressed to be. Stop threatening to burn the shrine, stop threatening my children, stop that rubbish,” -he said.
He went on to express his reservations about Mr Obi’s candidacy. He said, “Obi went to greet Obasanjo. That makes me sceptical. Obi went to meet Babangida. Who? Me? My family believes these people are a part of the problem in this country” – Femi insists
“Well, some people will say no. That is your business; you have the right to think like that if that is what you believe is good for you. But you, too, cannot tell me how to think. I have my reservations. I do. You cannot tell me not to have reservations.” The Afrobeat maestro said while condemning Peter Obi’s visits to Rtd Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
Mr Obi’s candidature has gained grassroots support from Nigerians who see him as a better alternative to other candidates in the 2023 contest. His campaign runs on the energy of young Nigerians who describe themselves as “Obidient” followers on social media.
Mr Kuti , however, has not expressed support for any presidential candidate , he has also expressed his concern about the misinterpretation of his statements .
