THE NEED FOR MORE TETFUND INTERVENTIONS @ ADEYEMI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ONDO STATE – By Fatai Ibrahim
“Vision with action can change the world” immortal words of Joel Baker.
Adeyemi College of Education Ondo State is one of the oldest and trail-blazing colleges of education in Nigeria, in human capital development and capacity building.
Steering the affairs of the college to greatness is Dr. Akintunde Samuel Akinrinola as the provost of the college and he remains a beacon of hope and shinning example for others to follow, as he boldly moves for the accelerated development of Adeyemi College of Education to the mountain top.
A product of the same college and the prestigious University of Ibadan. He is armed with a Doctorate Degree in Social Studies from the great citadel of learning popularly known as UI. In his quest of making Adeyemi College of Education maintain it’s position as one of the leading colleges of education in Nigeria, under his visionary and dynamic leadership, Dr. Akintunde Samuel Akinrinola, is marching words with action by putting in place some revolutionary initiatives in the college i.e compulsory entrepreneurship skills acquisition certificate programme for students of the college. As well as the inauguration of quality assurance compliance team to reposition the college for quality services and global competitiveness. In the same vein, the college is almost concluding a partnership programme with Shaanxi Polytechnic, China for Diploma programme in the development of computer software.
On its part, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as a way of complimenting the efforts of the management of Adeyemi College of Education, embarked on the following TETFund ongoing projects at the College i.e. the construction and furnishing of School of General Education; construction and furnishing of New Library as well as construction and furnishing of an extension complex for College Administration.
Interestingly, Dr. Akintunde’s verse experience and intellectual sagacity are added advantage in taking the college to the next level. Mention should be made of a few of the professional experiences he had garnered. He had been a consultant to National Institute of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in Nigeria. He also attended workshops on quality assurance in teacher education, by Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and National Commission for Colleges of Education.
However, as I conclude this article, it would not be out of place to advocate or rather appeal to Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under the visionary leadership of Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro and TETFund Board Members to look into providing special intervention and high impact projects to Adeyemi College of Education as well as the following; construction and equipping a research farm for the Department of Agricultural Science; construction and furnishing of a Centre for students entrepreneurial and vocational education as these have been part of the challenges this hardworking administrator has been trying to surmount.
Finally, it is considered that granting these requests by TETFund will go a long way in bring about the envisaged transformation and capacity building for the teachers-in-training in one of the oldest and trail-blazing institutions in the south west of Nigeria.
