Two nurses have been confirmed dead and 10 injured in a lone accident along the Lagos/Abeokuta expressway.
The Public Relations Officer of the state-owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to Channels Television via a statement issued on Monday.
He said the lone accident which involved a white Toyota Hiace, marked OG49A07 happened at Akinale village in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
It was reported that the bus was conveying 18 persons at the time of the incident.
The occupants of the bus said to be nurses, were all heading to a party to honour a matron in one of the hospitals in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The two dead victims were nurses from Ademola Hospital, Ijemo and General Hospital, Ijaiye, all in Abeokuta.
TRACE spokesman said that one of the survivors of the road crash accused the driver of over speeding and using a mobile phone while driving at a sharp bend.
“The driver lost control as the bus somersaulted several times. The injured victims were rescued to Hope Hospital, Adigbe, while the dead bodies have been deposited at Ijaye hospital morgue,” he said.
While commiserating with the family of the victims, Akinbiyi admonished road users to always obey traffic rules.
