He made the pronouncement at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Township, Abakaliki, during this year’s workers’ day with the theme “people first”.

Governor Nwifuru said his administration was building 39 special secondary schools across the 13 local government areas of the state with each building containing 21 classrooms .

He explained that his government has started sending 1,000 graduates yearly for their Masters and PhD programs, adding that they would be teaching in the 39  special secondary schools on graduation

“Our intension is that as our administration will be winding up around 2031 by the special Grace of God, by that time, we might have graduated at least 7,000 and this 7,000 will be above what we need at our primary and secondary schools.

“This is what we think that will give us face lift to our education sector. In doing this, we must have some little efforts to make. We can’t wait for people that are getting admission now to finish before we start changing the face of our secondary schools”, he stated.

In a joint address by the State NLC Chairman, Professor Ogugua Egwu and his TUC counterpart, they commended the governor for clearing the backlog of gratuity of retired civil servants from 1996-2021 which over 1,800 retirees benefited.

They also lauded the Governor for increasing the subvention of the state university from N150 million to N280million, revitalizing the 13 general hospitals across the state and recruitment of health workers into the state hospitals.
