Diaspora Centre: TETFUND to release N1bn for construction, Dabiri-Erewa hails appointment of UI Prof as first DG

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) will soon realise One billion naira to the University of Ibadan for construction of the newly created Diaspora Centre of Excellence, the first in Africa.

This is even as Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has congratulated Professor Senayon Olaoluwa on his appointment as the first Director General of the centre.

The TETFUND funded centre is an initiative of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in collaboration with the University of Ibadan.

In the congratulatory letter personally signed by her, the NIDCOM boss commended the efforts of the renowned Professor of Diaspora, adding that she believes in the competence and capability of Prof. Senayon Olaoluwa in driving the goals and aspiration of the Centre to its fullest maximisation and to the benefits of mankind.

She implored Prof. Olaoluwa to urgently bring to bear the gains of citing such centre in University of Ibadan, being the premier University in Nigeria in the areas of research and scholarship.

Olaoluwa’s appointment took effect from March 1, 2024 and it is for three years.

The Professor of Diaspora studies was  the founding Coordinator of the Diaspora and Trans-national Studies programme at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan where he was the former Director.

Olaoluwa has worked assiduously to develop the graduate programme into an enviable level through the encouragement of cutting edge research by faculty and students.
